Prior research demonstrated that the high vs. low perceived likelihood of fulfilling belonging predicts prosocial vs. antisocial responses to social rejection. However, these studies had small sample sizes. Here, we aimed to replicate this hypothesis in a well-powered preregistered study. Our results contradicted the original hypothesis, suggesting that it needs further refinement.
