Integrating research on interpersonal processes and implicit social cognition, we investigated spontaneous mechanisms that could explain the effect of implicit partner evaluations on romantic outcomes. By using observational data, we showed that constructive nonverbal behavior mediated the influence of implicit partner evaluations on subsequent changes in relational satisfaction.
