Research suggests that men feel more positive about their romantic partners’ success than women do. We specifically compared hetero- and homosexual men and women. When imagining their partner outperforming them, participants dating a man felt worse than participants dating a woman. Thus, some effects in couple research attributed to participant’s gender may actually be driven by partner’s gender.
