Why do socially anxious individuals have difficulties initiating new relationships? Using a speed-dating paradigm (N=173, 2409 dyads), social anxiety was associated with less accurate perceptions of how others see the self (metaperceptions), which in turn contributed to socially anxious individuals being perceived as less attractive, receiving less romantic interest, and making fewer matches.
