Mindfulness meditation enhances self-regulation, but the mechanisms of this effect are unclear. We collected experience sampling data to examine the factors of “momentary mindfulness” and their relation to goal-conflicting desires. In an RCT, we found Nonreactivity and Attentive Awareness reduced the enaction of desires, while Acceptance enhanced self-regulation through reducing negative emotions.
