Conspiracist beliefs (CB) act as epistemic providers in the face of threat. However, in a Meaning Maintenance perspective, we proposed that minimal expectancy-violations could decrease adherence to CB. This hypothesis was tested by conceptually replicating Heine, Proulx and Voh’s (2010) online (N = 275). As predicted, exposure to absurd art was found to decrease adherence to CB.
