Attachment styles influence behaviors that can both benefit and harm romantic relationships. We used a longitudinal study of newlyweds to demonstrate that anxiously attached people report more, and avoidantly attached people report less positive and negative mate-retention behaviors. Moreover, those negative mate-retention behaviors are associated with lower future partner satisfaction.
