This study examines the effect that behaving out of character in a situation can have on a person’s self-esteem by examining a discrepancy score between aggregate personality and behavior within situation. Researchers ran mixed effect multivariate linear regressions; all six personality characteristics significantly predicted self-esteem, with a few curvilinear relationships noted.
