Openness to Experience is the best Big Five predictor of politics, but the mechanisms of this link are unclear. We introduce a new construct, Openness to Other (O2), or embracing diversity in one’s environment, to fill this gap. O2, more strongly than Openness, predicts general and election-specific political views; religious and ethnic prejudice; and ethnic diversity of individuals’ social networks.
