Attitudes towards the self affect expectations for social feedback (SF), but we may process valenced SF in line with momentary- or trait-level expectations differently. Participants recalled expected SF (expectation congruent) more accurately than unexpected SF, regardless of valence. Participants high in rejection-sensitivity recalled rejecting (vs. accepting) SF more accurately, regardless of expectation.
