We conducted a meta-analysis of the moral judgment-behavior relationship (401 effect sizes, N = 139,000) to identify best research practices and pinpoint context variations that help or hinder living up to one’s moral values. We find an overall positive correlation (r = .39) with large variations in reported effect sizes due to key methodological and contextual moderators.
